Fender Bender

I got in my first accident on Tuesday night, while driving to the gym in traffic. :( The person in front of me starting moving then stopped so abruptly that I plowed into her! Completely my fault and I take all responsibility. We are both okay though (thank goodness!) and we exchanged all the appropriate information. It was just a fender bender and my bumper looks way worse than hers, which is a good thing. I have about a 1-inch crack in mine and some scratching/scuffing but it's completely drivable.

She was really nice about the situation as she could tell I was rather upset. Then she offered to let me pay her outright if the damage is less than $500 instead of go through our insurances, so she's supposed to call me this weekend with a quote. Luckily, her car is a few years old and not high-end so I would be really surprised if the estimate is more than that! That was really nice of her, because I'd prefer it if my car insurance didn't go up, especially since I'm on the cusp of being 25 and haven't had an accident in my nine years of driving. I'm just glad it's not a full-flown accident or anything so I just have to wait and see what the outcome is. And I'm also glad I have over $800 in my car fund and a full emergency fund in case anything really bad had happened.

Yep, car accidents suck! With any luck it'll be super cheap to fix. The last time T had an accident we were convinced it wouldn't exceed his excess payable, but apparently it did, which annoyed me to no end! Grrrrrr. I don't say that to scare you, just wanted to share :)

Eeek!

I hope it's below $500 and it all blows over.

awww - glad to hear you're alright though. Accidents are terrible and really shake you up. I hope you're not too much out of pocket for this one.

Sorry to hear about the car, but at least the lady was cool. Keep us posted on everything.

what a bummer! glad it wasn't worse. car repairs are so expensive these days you'd be surprised how much they charge just to fix a scratch....but I HOPE it will be under $500 for you. And hope you have a decent deductible yourself.

That really stinks, though I'm not at all surprised because those accidents are like a million/day here in San Diego, because highway traffic is so weird. You go from 50 to 0 really quickly, which causes lots of this type of accident! Anyway, you should get your car checked out, mainly because sometimes it looks like there's no damage, but the radiator or some other engine part got damaged in the smush! I had something similar happen and it wasn't until a couple years later that I realized there was more cracked stuff than I thought. Hope everything is OK. :)
